The Circulators invite you to dance with us Friday evenings at the Recital Hall in San Diego's beautiful Balboa Park from 7:30 - 9:30 PM. We dance at the plus level, with rounds between tips. Steve Woodard is our caller, Richard Cartwright, Milton Alexander, and Rochelle Catt are our cuers. Couples, singles, and children (with adult supervision) are welcome. The entrance donation is $5.00 per person, unless it is a special dance with an out-town-caller. Children 13 and under are free.
Our party night is normally every 4th Friday. Take a look at our calendar and dress up to match the occasion. We have out-of-town callers on many of our 5th Friday dances.
For the hearing impaired and those wearing hearing aids, Circulators is proud to have a sound enhancement system. With your own pocket FM radio receiver and earphones or ear buds, you can tune into the Circulators' frequency and receive the caller's voice directly. Distracting noises, reverberation, or distance from the sound source will not interfere with your ability to hear the caller or cuer.
It's summer time! Put away those petticoats, bloomers, and long-sleeved shirts for summer attire. Shorts, short-sleeved shirts or whatever can help keep you cool while you work up a sweat dancing is acceptable to wear to our dances.
Our DBD (Dancing By Definition) summer workshop begins June 22. Learn basic, mainstream, and plus calls from different positions than normally used by most callers. The workshop is from 6:30 - 7:30 and will continue through August 24. $5.00 per person pays for the workshop and the regular club dance.
Our class for new dancers begins September 7 & 14 with students being accepted both evenings. Classes are Friday evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Recital Hall. Your first night of dancing is free and the following classes are $5 per session or $50 for classes September through December. Children 10 - 16 are free with paid adult. We welcome both new dancers and folks who have danced in the past and would like to renew their skills.
Square dancing is a lot of fun and good exercise. You meet people from all walks of life and all ages. Give it a try if you have never square danced, or if you vaguely remember it from your elementary school days. We think you'll like it!

Steve Woodard has been calling for the club since 1981. He began square dance calling while serving in the Army in Germany. We consider him one of the best callers in the southern California area. He enjoys calling a challenging dance and we like him keeping us on our toes. He calls at many dances and festivals throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona. Please contact Steve if you'd like to contract him for a dance. He can be reached at 619-742-4570 or via e-mail.
Richard & Judy Cartwright: Richard square danced when he was in 5th and 6th grades and enjoyed it very much, so when the kids were old enough (1991), Richard and Judy decided to give it a try. The rest of the story is a natural progression from square dancing, to round dancing between square dance tips, to becoming more and more involved in round dancing. "We enjoyed teaching a round dance class for a couple of years, but currently our situation prevents us from starting a new class. We hope to get back into teaching before long. We look forward to seeing you on the dance floor."
Milton & Karen Alexander: I have been dancing all my life. Besides square, round, and line dance, I enjoy country and western, clogging, ballroom, and even Charleston! In the 80's I was dancing in most of the Country Western clubs in San Diego when I noticed clogging and I HAD to learn that!! Lucky decision...Karen and I met during lessons. We've been dancing together ever since (33 years). Cueing locally with San Diego Square Dance Association and Back Country Association is where I want to be. I thoroughly appreciate the dedication and hard work involved in these associations to keep dancing available to us all.
Rochelle & Leo Catt: We relocated here from Seattle, Washington and currently reside in Ramona, California. Leo has been dancing since he was a kid while Rochelle learned to square and round dance when she met Leo in 2011. Both Leo and Rochelle enjoy all types of music and love being involved in the San Diego Square and Round Dance Community. Leo is a Square Dance Caller while Rochelle took up cueing a few years ago and enjoys cueing phase 2-5 with some phase 6 and enjoys all types of music from the classics to pop and rock and roll. She has also started writing her own round dances and looks forward to future creations. Rochelle is a member of Roundalab and the San Diego Round Dance Instructors.
